I had the pleasure of visiting this interesting winery in Italy, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. They specialize in organic wines, and what impressed me the most was their Sauvignon Blanc – it’s completely different from any I’ve tasted before. The flavors are so unique and distinct, making it stand out in the best way possible. The winery produces biological wines without sulfates, and what makes it even more special is that every batch has a slightly different taste, making each visit a new discovery. The location itself is absolutely charming, adding to the overall magic of the experience. I’m certain you’ll want to return again and again.

If you are interested in Natural and Biodynamic Wines this vineyard should not be missed! Paolo has real care for the land and his vineyards. The wine shows that fact as well. We tasted a number of things during our visit:

1. Rosato of Nebbiolo and Barbera which had fine acidity with some tannins as well. A very interesting wine.
2. Sauvignon Blanc done in the style of Orange Wine. This was a favorite.
3. Barbera d’Asti which was exuberant and delightful
4. Grignolino which is one of my personal favorites. Well done at this vineyard.
5. 2 different Nebbiolo wines done in the style of Barbaresco. Both very enjoyable
6. A spiced Chinato of Nebbiolo and Barbera

We called Paolo a couple days ahead of time to set up our reservation and it was very easy to find his “wine laboratory” where we were able to taste all these wines, buy some to take home, and also see the hazelnuts being processed. He was very welcoming and if we return to the area we will visit again.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, we were in Paulo’s vineyard as a family. He received us very hospitably and drove us in his landrover to his vineyard. This trip was an experience in itself. His tour in the vineyard against the rolling Italian hills brought the process of grape ripening very close to us. He also showed us how the hazelnuts grew. Upon returning home, we tasted the different varieties of wine. We used lunch at the restaurant that poured the wines of this vineyard owner. In short, it was an unforgettable experience that gave us lifelong insight!

First winery we visited on our Piedmont trip. Maciot is a biological and a biodynamic winery. In essence meaning that it does not use any chemicals, uses minimal sulphites, and follows the lunar cycles for wine production processes timing. But the philosophy extends beyond that, the winery exists in harmony with surrounding nature. The visit was on a 29th of December and despite being late in the evening Paolo met us and walked through the winery explaining all the processes and his philosophy behind biodynamic winemaking. He is the winemaker and is fully involved in every process starting with growing the grapes and bottling them. He let us taste the wine right there in his “cave” and it was a truly exclusive and unique experience. The wines were “funky” but very tasty, you could taste the quality and they really were not like the rest we tried in the region after. The grape varieties included Barbera, Nebbiolo, Grignolino, and Sauvignon Blanc for orange. Bottom line, if you are looking for a unique, authentic experience this is the place. Highly recommend for all, even for those who do not really know or are sceptics for the biodynamic winemaking. In the end of the day, it is the winemaker (the people) that make experiences great!)
